  • 9 inch (23 cm) oven safe cake round
  • Mixing bowl A stand mixer is not necessary because there is minimal mixing and the batter is very loose.


  • Butter and flower for dusting
  • 450 gr All-Purpose Flour
  • 650 gr Granulated Sugar
  • 155 gr Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 17 gr Baking Soda
  • 8 gr Baking Powder
  • 11 gr Salt
  • 4 Eggs
  • 350 ml Buttermilk You can use a liquid yogurt or Kifir; something that should be acidic
  • 350 ml Warm Water
  • 150 ml Vegetable Oil
  • 10 ml Vanilla Extract


  • Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F).
  • Grease a cake pan (either two 9-inch round pans or one 9x13-inch pan) with butter. Dust it with flour and tap out the excess.
  • Beat the eggs. Add the buttermilk, warm water, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix these until well combined.
  • Add the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Using a spatula, mix all the ingredients until well combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan(s).Bake for 30-35 minutes for round pans or 35-40 minutes for a 9x13-inch pan, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
